After the joy of having my painting selected for the Royal Society of British Artists, it is time to get the paints out and work on others. With the Byard Art Summer Show and the Cambridge Drawing Society exhibition coming up, it is time to show a little bit of what I am working on at present.
Here are two areas of a new painting, not sure of the title yet but it looks as if the well-to-do lady has lost her parrot! Inspired by the Northern European artists of 600 years ago who made the Bestiaries (books that help the congregation keep the a righteous path), based on drawings I made at the Parker Library and other places as well as searching online to get me into the art of years ago.
In the meantime I have visited the Siena exhibition to see how the Italians depicted the same era. Absolutely beautiful paintings but I like the European work better as it is not so religious, maybe one can have too much gold and halos?
Painter living in Cambridge. Mixes fantasy and realism and loves medieval art and it's detail. An avid sketcher.
