I painted this in my class as a demonstration on using a palette knife with acrylics.
I find using a palette knife is very liberating after spending hours making incredible detail with a miniature brush. Some of my students are not comfortable with this technique, though, as they don't feel totally in control.
One of the aims of the session was to show you don't have to start with a white canvas. I find it is quite liberating. The painting is of my trusty red bike in front of some college railings. It is a common sight in Cambridge where most people get around by bicycle to see the bikes lined up outside the university railings which are adorned with all the events for the both students and residents.
