Delighted to say this painting was chosen to be displayed by the Society of British Artists at the Mall Galleries. I responded to an Open Call and my work was chosen. I actually can't say HOW delighted I was, what an honour.
I have always loved old Northern European Art, whenever I visit a museum or gallery it is the first section I head for, especially if there are any old manuscripts on show. Of course I also love the Italian Art from the same era but I can only take so many golden halos.
What is happening in the painting? I am not totally sure. It started when I painted this glorious Pear Tree with fruit absolutely ripe for picking and pickling and laying down in a cold cellar. But a lady appears from an image I once saw and other animals appeared with the tufts of grass and flowers alongside the rabbits that crop up in the margins of old manuscripts.
My initial title was 'Lost Parrot' as the lady finds the bird under a tree. But I have other paintings in a 'Garden of Delights' series poking a bit of fun at Hieronymus Bosch and thought this fitted in with the series.
I hope you like it, I certainly enjoyed painting it.
