This small 'Partridge in a Pear tree' is one of my new acrylics with the Golden Open paints. Painted on a heavy watercolour paper the size shown is the framed size which includes a mount.
I love painting trees but they all have to tell a story, can't remember when I painted a tree to look exactly like one growing in the ground. I get inspired by words: they can be from mythology, poetry or sayings, in this case 'The Twelve Days of Christmas'. I always find it rather odd that partridges don't live in trees yet appear in this famous rhyme, so my partridge looks rather uncomfortable perched there not knowing whether to hide in the tree or give up and go back to being on the ground.
